Try not to repeat your mistakes -- surviving it the first time was probably just dumb luck, and nobody's dumb enough to do it twice.

I know I haven't been posting or reviewing around here much lately, but I'm likely to be here even less over the next few months. Thoughts and images that had been floating around in my head recently have coalesced into an idea, and I'm busy writing it down in the form of a novel. It's a ghost story, but not of the usual kind. Writing it makes me realize that the ghosts of the living are much more interesting than the ghosts of the dead.
YouTube - Victory Speech in South Carolina

I came of age at the beginning of the Reagan Administration. I was politically active at the time -- I hated his presidency and did what I could to oppose it -- but I lost interest during the George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations. The current George W. Bush administration pretty much led me to despair for my own country (not something I'm proud of, but true nonetheless). As I watched Barack Obama's victory speech after the South Carolina primary, I felt something I hadn't in a long time: that I actually gave a damn about America.

It's a shame something like the "optical telegraph" discussed here has fallen into virtually forgotten history. It looks very simple from our 21st Century vantage point, but to someone in the 18th Century, it was cutting edge. We should remember things like this, both to show how far we've come and to remind us that sometimes we really haven't come all that far. We're not doing anything different from the way we used to, we're just doing it faster.

HATE HAS A SOUNDTRACK

This is so amazingly bizarre that I can't even begin to comment. Just watch the video and realize that, for the most part, these people are just like you and me.

I've been logging onto StumbleUpon almost daily to check out new sites for the topics I'm interested in, but I haven't been checking on Friends very much.  If you suddenly see me popping up as one of the latest visitors to your site, it's just because I want to find out what everyone has been up to lately.  I've already noticed that some people I have as Friends haven't been active for six months or more, so I've been thinning the herd, as it were, to make room for new and more active potential Friends.

I should really be rating and reviewing more sites myself -- that's the purpose of SU after all -- and I hope to as time allows.  Between work, writing, and general laziness, I haven't done much here for a while.  I'll try to correct this problem.

A good list of foods to add to your diet. It would be best to plan meals with some of them according to the benefits you're looking for, rather than just eating a lot of them and expecting things to get better. And trying to eat all 100 for the greatest possible benefit might just have the opposite effect: your productivity will drop to zero as you won't be able to move around on your own for a while.

Passion is nice, but a little self-restraint wouldn't hurt.

A nice list, but should be used sparingly. There's nothing wrong with using "he said" or "she said" at the end of a line of dialogue. Overuse of these words is a violation of the Show, don't tell rule of writing.
