Try not to repeat your mistakes -- surviving it the first time was probably just dumb luck, and nobody's dumb enough to do it twice.

Obituary of Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop.
I wasn't a customer of The Body Shop, but some of the women I've been involved with over the years were, and they swore by her products. They were high quality and their manufacture and testing were cruelty-free, a first in the cosmetics industry.
I first heard of Roddick while watching a segment about her on "60 Minutes." I was struck not only by her drive and intelligence, but her dedication to her principles and her ingenuity. When she first started The Body Shop and was making her products in her kitchen, she needed inexpensive containers. That quest led her to a medical supply company, and resulted in her first offerings being packaged in bottles intended for collecting urine samples.
It's unfortunate that someone like her is now gone, and equally unfortunate that there are not more like her around -- an entrepreneur with vision and conscience, whose business plan does not consist solely of grasping market share.

Anyone notice that, according to this map, Africa doesn't even exist?

I won't quote Einstein here, since the passage is short and you'd have no reason to visit the page if I did. I'll just give my own little commentary. It might be best if you visit the page first, then return and read what I've written, lest it be too much of an influence.
(A good reason StumbleUpon should add a feature to hide comments. Hint, hint.)
I'm not religious, nor am I spiritual by any accepted standard. Despite this, I'm not closed minded to idea of feeling in awe and wonder of things greater than myself and beyond my understanding. I simply choose not to remain in awe and wonder, but to do what I can to gain a greater understanding and become more than I am through it. I know too many people who choose to isolate themselves within the limits of their current understandings. They are what they are, they say, and always will be. I feel sorry for them. There is so much to learn and experience within the brief flicker of a life's candle flame than none of us could hope to discover it all, but some choose to accept the delusion that they have and whatever lies outside there understanding is not worth knowing. Their lives become little more than idle time before death. I want to live like a child in a petting zoo, always amazed by what I see and looking for whatever else there might be, never wanting to leave. I won't stop learning, experiencing, and growing till I'm no longer breathing.

This is the site for 2007 Fuji Rock Festival, which is now history. The only reason I'm linking to it is that there isn't one yet for the 2008 Festival. When there is, I'll link to it.
I've been wanting to vacation in Japan for the past few years, but couldn't figure out a particular time or reason until I heard about this annual 3-day festival, which draws quite a few Japanese and international acts. As soon as tickets go on sale for next year's show, I'll be ready.
And the timing of the show couldn't be better. It's held in late July, which, if I spent a few weeks in Japan, would allow me to be there for the Bon Festival. I'm not a spiritual person, and would probably find the Fuji Rock Festival more spiritually moving, but there's something about Bon that I've always found appealing.
Time to start improving my conversational Japanese.

Washing electronic components with soap and water goes way back to the early days of radio. This might not be common knowledge, but it's hardly anything new.
The keyboard I'm using right now has gone through the dishwasher a couple of times. It wasn't to disinfect it, but because the keys had started to stick from spilling coffee and soft drinks on it too many times. I wouldn't recommend using detergent though -- hot water will suffice. And I'd be reluctant to do this with a wireless keyboard, but it might still be all right.

This is really shitty. Not only are gasoline prices in the U.S. getting to be more than many people can afford, now you can't even pay if you've got the money!

My first though was "bukkake candlestick."
I found this through my friend Lhuga's page. I don't know if this is what she was thinking when she posted it -- if not, then I apologize profusely -- but I have a vivid imagination and a sick mind and I'm forced to go with my first impressions.
