Try not to repeat your mistakes -- surviving it the first time was probably just dumb luck, and nobody's dumb enough to do it twice.

Phonecam recording of a recent performance in London. Low video quality and too much ambient noise, but Rie Fu's voice still comes through strong and clear. It's obvious she is a very talented singer, not one who needs to be rescued or enhanced in the mix. I like this particular video because it satisfies my passions for live music, the female voice, singer-songwriters, and Japanese women :)

Anime fans will recognize her from ending themes she did for the shows "Bleach," "Gundam Seed Destiny," and "Darker than Black."

The last entry made me realize I haven't done much hiking lately. I don't have any hiking partners at the moment, so anyone from the East Tennessee or Western North Carolina area who would be interested in getting together for a day hike some weekend should feel free to contact me. If we can get at least 5 or 6 people to commit, it might be worth the blisters.

Nice wallpaper photos of the Great Smoky Mountains along the Tennessee/North_Carolina border. It's less than an hour's drive from where I live, so I've seen some of these sites in person. The photos don't do justice to the real thing, though.

An interesting test of knowledge and intelligence that is, unfortunately, slightly hobbled by grammatical errors. I got a score of 25 pretty easily before saving (I downloaded the Excel XLS file version). I'm sure I'll come back to it later and eventually solve it all, even if it means using Google. I just can't let something like this go undone.

UPDATE - April 14, 3:02pm: Came back for a few minutes and got three more without assistance. Current score: 28.

The basic rules of English composition.  If you write anything that others will read but you haven't read this yet, stop until you do.  Please.

I love cats. I've had a few over the years, and I've loved each of them as much as the dogs I had. But cats can be a bit of a nuisance, especially if you have too many. All of us know someone who's gone one kitty over the line, and what it's like when we go visit them. Here's a nice little treat to feed that feline overindulger.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and it's been lingering in my mind ever since. The implicit sadness of the article really caught my attention. Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, so something like this goes virtually unnoticed. An unfortunate example of Joseph Stalin's bitchy observation: "One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic."

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Found this through my new friend, kristenlcolby. It's strange -- I've lived in Tennessee for 25 years, moved around a bit before that, and haven't lived in Indiana since 1971 (when I was 9), but my voice still belies my Hoosier roots.
