Try not to repeat your mistakes -- surviving it the first time was probably just dumb luck, and nobody's dumb enough to do it twice.

Slipped on the Banana Peel of Life and got sidetracked again! I haven't had time to do much more than look around here on SU for the past couple of months. Things should be back to normal, in fact even better than normal, around Thanksgiving (a late-November holiday for those non-Americans who don't keep up with such things).

And if anyone's interested, I haven't had a cigarette in five weeks. This time, I'm using nicotine patches.  After that last, ill-fated attempt to quit earlier this year, I decided doing it cold turkey was for the birds.

The avatar about had me spitting a drink on the monitor.  Definitely worth a "thumbs up."

A food blog of an American in Japan getting acquainted with the local cuisine. Rather than approaching the subject from how Japanese food differs from American, which might possibly imply that it is strange, the author simply shows what it is and how it's used. As an amateur ethno-cuisinologist myself, I appreciate the unbiased information provided. Many good recipes and insights that extend far beyond the sushi bar and Benihana communal habachi fare.

In the only hamburger eating contest sanctioned by the IFOCE, competitors attempt to get down as many of the cute little burgers as they can in eight minutes. Last year's winner and current record holder (69) is Takeru Kobayashi, the same guy who has won the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest six years in a row. The finals, October 28th in Chattanooga, Tennessee, will be televised on ESPN.

Found this through ooops9. I still don't like these things, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Your Personality Profile

You are elegant, withdrawn, and brilliant.

Your mind is a weapon, able to solve any puzzle.

You are also great at poking holes in arguments and common beliefs.

For you, comfort and calm are very important.

You tend to thrive on your own and shrug off most affection.

You prefer to protect your emotions and stay strong.

Yeah, whatever. I'd just like to find one that would tell me I'll be getting laid more often.

A Stumbler who is very selective with her Reviews and Thumbs, but is always right on the mark when she applies them.

I feel sorry for Pluto. The International Astronomical Union is treating it like a guy whose ex-girlfriend is going around telling everybody he has a small dick.

I haven't been very active here lately. The fact is, I haven't been very active with much of anything lately. I don't know why, but I've lapsed into a serious ennui. I'm not depressed or anything, I just don't feel inclined or motivated to put forth much effort. This has happened a few times in my life, and each time it turned out to be the calm before the shitstorm. I guess it's my punishment for wishing for an interesting life.

Feel blue, say "I do" as weddings boost mood: study

Get married to combat depression? My ex said being married to me was why she was depressed :(

In response to a review from Gorbichov, I decided it was time to get dressed.

I started redoing this image as a joke, but I really liked the look when I finished. As much as I dislike the facial expression in the original photo, it works in a suit. I'm debating on whether to use this as my new avatar or do a few more photo manipulations with other clothes and see what looks I can come up with. This is a little like playing "dress-up" or playing with paper dolls, but it's fun. The weather outside today is crappy, there's nothing on television, and all my friends seem to be busy this evening. I should be reading or writing something, but I need screw-around time too.

(Notice I didn't use any variation of the word "Photoshop" in the above paragraph. I have Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro, but those are Windows programs; I spend most of my computing time in Linux, so this was done in The Gimp.)
