Shameless Self-Abuse
I heard from someone tonight that my avatar, a self-portrait that I took in the mirror, looks a little too serious. It's not the first time I've heard that, and it's nothing that I didn't already know. Every time I sign on to StumbleUpon, I'm confronted with this picture. Even though it's my own image, the first thought I have is "What the fuck's wrong with you? Smile, God damn it!" Despite appearances to the contrary, I'm not pissed off, I'm not constipated, and I'm not about to tell you that you only have six months to live. For some reason, I'm just not able to relax in front of a camera. I've seen plenty of photos taken of me by others when I wasn't expecting it, and in all of them, I look like I'm having fun, which I usually am. Most of my friends think I'm pretty funny, though maybe a little strange. When a camera comes around, I suddenly become the "before" picture in an ad for a headache remedy. I'll try to get something up here soon that looks a little more like the real me. The only thing I can figure about this is that I'm practicing for the day when the authorities finally figure out what I'm really up to and I get hauled off to jail. I'm pretty sure that having a smile on my face in my mug shot would work against me in the sentencing phase of the trial.
